May 19, 2008--If you're trying to map out a healthy new lifestyle, you might want to take the lead from these urban centers.

When ranked in terms of incidence of high blood pressure, amount of exercise, eating habits a nd other contributors to overall heart health, these 10 metropolises topped the charts, according to a new study released by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Heart-Healthiest Cities

10. Phoenix, Arizona
9. Los Angeles, California
8. San Diego, California
7. Portland, Oregon
6. Seattle, Washington
5. Boston, Massachusetts
4. Denver, Colorado
3. San Francisco, California
2. Washington, DC
1. Minneapolis, Minnesota

So, aside from bragging rights, why is this important? Why is the AHA even taking a look at trends in urban environments?

Well, heart disease kills more women annually than any other singular disease. But if you take a proactive approach to eating healthfully and leading an active lifestyle, you can help keep the risks for developing heart disease at bay.

So if you live in one of these heart-healthy hotspots, get out there and make the most of them! And if you don't, never fear. You can still make a move to living a fitter lifestyle.
